Men's Tennis Falls to Fighting Scots

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 final to Gordon College on Thursday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

Gordon won at the top two doubles spots to take a 2-1 advantage into the singles portion of the competition. Senior Will Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore John Marineau (Auburn, N.H.) defeated junior Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomore Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Senior Richard Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Mark Noschese (Wayne, N.J.) got by senior Zoltan Eross (Budapest, Hungary) at No. 2 doubles in an 8-2 final. Juniors Vilhelm Peltonen (Helsinki, Finland) and David Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) paired up at No. 3 doubles to win the point by default.

The Fighting Scots controlled singles play, taking the top four spots in straight sets. Gordon lost a combined eight games. Jeffreys topped Russo at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-3. Marineau defeated Peltonen at No. 2 in a 6-1, 6-2 final. Ryzi blanked Bell at the No. 3 spot while Noschese took down Monteiro at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0). Eross and Paranica captured the No. 5 and 6 singles points, respectively, by default.

Curry (0-4 overall) and Gordon (3-2 overall) will square off again in a conference match on Saturday, April 10 at the Brigham Athletic Complex at 11:00 a.m.
