Men's Tennis Tripped Up By Johnson & Wales in Season Finale, 7-2

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to Johnson & Wales in their season finale by a final of 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Big Nine Tennis Courts. The win pushes the Wildcats to 9-2 overall while the Colonels conclude the season with a 7-12 mark.

Johnson & Wales started the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles play. Andre Barbaro (Brielle, N.J.)  and Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) topped the Curry first doubles team of Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) by a final of 8-1. Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.) and Ryan Schiele (Lusby, Md.) edged the Colonels' second doubles pair of Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and Ben Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine), 8-6. The Wildcats completed the sweep when the tandem of Tyler Dupee (Middletown, N.Y.) and Jack Hopkins (Hamilton, Mass.) as the took down Curry's pair of Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) by a final of 8-2.  

Johnson & Wales then went on to take four of the six singles points. Barbero defeated Sullivan at number one in straight sets, 6-0 and 7-5. The Colonels took the number two singles match thanks to a 7-5, 6-4 victory for Stento over Auffret. The third singles point went to the Wildcats after Farmer took down Hefler in two sets 6-2 and 6-4. Dupee won the fourth singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Higgins. Hopkins then captured the fifth singles point with a 6-2 6-4 triumph over Muller and then Ritucci picked up a three set victory 6-2, 1-6 and 6-4 at number six to close out play with a second point for Curry.

The loss ends the season for Curry while Johnson & Wales will host Suffolk in the GNAC Semifinals on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
