
MIDDLETON, Mass. – Salem State and Curry College met at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon with the Colonels scoring a 6-3 victory over the Vikings. Curry swept all three doubles matches in improving to 4-6 on the year. Salem State is now 0-3.
Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) / Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.) / Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) won at first and second doubles respectively over Matt Mogren (Newburyport, Mass.) / Mitchell Dyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) / Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.). Roach and Stento won 8-2 at first doubles while Sullivan and Hefler also recorded an 8-2 victory at second doubles. Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Ben Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine) completed the doubles sweep for Curry, grabbing an 8-4 victory over Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass) and Jacob Averka (Sutton, Mass.).
Chen and Noah Hodgkins picked up wins at second and fifth singles for Salem State. Chen defeated Sullivan, 6-3, 6-3 while Hodgkins, the brother of former All-Little East tennis standout Kenny Hodgkins, picked up his first collegiate victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Muller at fifth singles. Dyer picked up the third point for Salem State at third singles as Stento retired.
Roach recorded a win at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 for Curry, while Hefler won 6-1, 6-2 over Luke Hodgkins at fourth singles. Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine) won at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-3, defeating Jacob Averka (Sutton, Mass.).
Salem State will host Emerson at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass. on Thursday beginning at 6:00 p.m. Curry goes to Endicott for a 3:30 p.m. match tomorrow.
