Men's Tennis Falls To Gordon in Conference Play, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass.— The Gordon College Men's Tennis got back to the .500 mark in Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 9-0 win over Curry College at the Bass River Tennis Club on a snowy Saturday afternoon. Two of three doubles matches were close, but the Fighting Scots cruised to victory with convincing results in singles play to complete the shutout.

Gordon turned in a 2-0 week without dropping a match and improves to 9-4 overall this year. Fresh off its second win of the season, Curry falls to 2-6 and 0-2 in the CCC. The Fighting Scots are 1-1 in conference after dropping its opener to Nichols last Saturday.

The freshman-junior connection of Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, Calif.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) got Gordon on the board with an 8-1 victory at second doubles. However, Curry made the Fighting Scots work hard for wins at the first and third spots. Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Mike D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) fought through for an 8-5 win at the top spot over Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.). Kris Marineau (Auburn, N.H.) and Caven Bell (Long Valley, N.J.) were able to outlast their opponents at the final slot, 8-6.

Godwin was the first Scot to claim victory in the latter portion of the match, notching a 6-2, 6-1 win over Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) at four. Frink officially closed things out with a 6-0, 6-1 result at the second flight.

Casady, D'Antuono, Marineau and Bell all claimed straight-set victories as well for finish off the match.

Gordon's conference schedule remains tough with a trip to Roger Williams in store on Wednesday. Curry will host Suffolk on Monday at 3 p.m.
