MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to visiting opponent Johnson and Wales, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Bison improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 0-6 overall. The Bison swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.
Johnson and Wales No. 1 singles player, Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.) won his match 6-0, 6-0 against Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec). The Bison's No. 2 singles player Nick Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) claimed his tilt verse Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.), 6-2, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) was bested by Jason Chevenson (Upper Dublin, Pa.), 6-0, 6-2. Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Nichols, 6-0, 6-0 by defeating Michael Mathieu (Paxton, Mass.). The Wildcat's Jorge Mancebo (Santiago, Domincan Republic) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) and at the No. 6 position, Ryan Schiele (Lusby, Md.) defeated Curry's Xiaoxing Liu (Shenzhen, China), 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the No.1 pair Barbero and Auffret earned an 8-2 victory over the Colonels Blatchford and Hefler. The No. 2 duo of Chavenson and Farmer bested Curry's Hegarty and Mathieu, 8-0. In the final match on the day, No.3 Wildcat's doubles partners, Mancebo and Schiele outlasted Ritucci and Liu, 8-0.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, March 23 at 3:00 when they host Bridgewater State in a non-conference battle.
