Men's Tennis Falls to Visiting Johnson & Wales, 9-0

MILTON, Mass.  – The Curry College Men's Tennis team fell to visiting non-conference foe Johnson & Wales University, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 1-1.

The Wildcats swept all six singles matches starting with sophomore Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.) beating junior captain Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) knocked off sophomore Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) 6-3 and 6-1, then freshman Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.) got past junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.) 6-4 and 6-3. Junior Mariusz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) beat sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, Mass.) 6-0 and 6-3. Next, junior Jason Chavenson (Upper Dublin, PA) defeated freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) 6-2 and 6-3, and finally, freshman Ryan Schiele (Lusby, M.D.) triumphed over  senior Jonathon Schutzman (Bellmore, N.Y.) 6-0 and 6-1.

The Colonels were swept in the doubles, starting with Barbero and Auffret winning 8-6 over Blatchford and Temin, followed by Chavenson and Farmer winning 8-4 over Paltsios and Poulack. Finally, Marius Wala and Grzegorz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) bested Hegarty and Schutzman, 8-3.

Johnson & Wales is back in action next Monday at 3:00 p.m. hosting Bridgewater State. Curry resumes play tomorrow hosting conference foe Wentworth at 3:30 p.m.
