Men's Tennis Cruises Past Lesley 8-1 for Second Win in a Row

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Colonels of Curry College won their second straight match as they topped the Lynx 8-1 tonight in NCAA Division III men's tennis action at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-9 on the year while the Lynx fall to 0-7.

The Curry No. 1 doubles tandem of Toma Blatchford (Montreal) and Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) downed the Lesley duo of freshman Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and sophomore Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) 8-0 in the night's first match. Curry senior Evan Fishman (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and junior Eric Hellberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also teamed up for an 8-0 sweep in No. 3 doubles as they topped senior Aqib Shah (Watertown, Mass.) and sophomore Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.).

Lesley avoided the doubles sweep and picked up their only victory of the night in the No.2 doubles flight. Sophomore Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) bested Curry seniors Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.) and Frank LaMotte (Chesterfield, Md.)in an exciting 8-6 victory.

In the singles portion of the match, Toma Blatchford picked up his second win of the night as he downed Harrison Sidell, 6-1, 6-0. Valvel Temin and Eric Hellberg both earned 6-0, 6-1 wins in No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while Lucas Donaway used straight set scores of 6-2, 6-2 to top Trevor Martin.

Evan Fishman won a hard fought battle over Chris Hunt in the fifth singles match, 6-4, 6-2, while freshman Corey Flax (Potomac, Md.) concluded the night with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jack Tortorici in No. 6 singles.

The Lynx will travel to New London, Conn. on Friday, April 11th to take on Mitchell College in a match rescheduled from April 3rd. The Colonels will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Roger Williams University. First serve is set for 4:00p.
