Men's Tennis Handed a 9-0 Defeat by Visiting CCC Rival Western New England

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Western New England University blanked Curry, 9-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's tennis action Saturday afternoon in Milton. With the victory, the Golden Bears improve to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in CCC action, while the Colonels fall to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The visitors opened by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomore classmates Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) defeated sophomore Toma Blatchford (Montreal, Quebec) and freshman Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.), 8-4, at #1; junior classmates Peter LeFrancois (Marlborough, Mass.) and P.J. Nassar (Longmeadow, Mass.) took care of junior classmates Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) and Eric Helberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), 8-1, at #2; and junior classmates John Mindek (Willington, Conn.) and Greg Tischofer (Portland, Conn.) blanked senior classmates Nicholas Ironside (Wellesley, Mass.) and Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.), 8-0, at #3.

Singles went the same way for Western New England, with Sause outlasting Blatchford, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3, at #1; LeFrancois handling Temin, 6-0, 6-2, at #2; senior Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, Vt.) making quick work of Berger, 6-1, 6-1, at #3; sophomore Andrew Schnier (Long Beach, N.Y.) putting away Donaway, 7-5, 6-0, at #4; Mindek blanking senior Evan Fishman (Glen Ridge, N.J.), 6-0, 6-0, at #5; and freshman James Parla (Manchester, Conn.) defeating senior Frank LaMotte (Chestertown, Md.), 6-2, 6-1, at #6.

The Golden Bears resume play on April 1, hosting CCC rival Wentworth at 3:00 p.m. Curry returns to action on Monday, welcoming non-conference foe Anna Maria to Milton for a 3:30 p.m. match.
