Men's Tennis Defeated at Home 8-1 By Conference Foe Western New England
MILTON, Mass. - The Western New England College men's tennis team ran its consecutive win streak to eight matches after defeating Curry 8-1 in breezy conditions Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Golden Bears raised their record to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Colonels fell to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Early on in doubles play, Western New England cruised, winning all three matches 8-1, 8-2, and 8-2, respectively.  Several matches in singles would prove to be much closer.

In a hard-fought three-set match, Curry junior Thomas Bagley (Centerville, MA), defeated senior Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ), 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 for the Colonels’ lone win. WNEC sophomore Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI), also went the distance with Curry’s J.D. Moyer (Cape Elizabeth, ME). Holzinger was eventually able to pull out the come from behind win with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 finish. In the final match of the day, WNEC junior JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) battled sophomore Tyler Collins (Oyster Bay, NY), and won 7-6, 6-3.

In the other three singles matches, WNEC seniors won handily. Senior Brian Relihan (Orange, CT), defeated senior Tyler Dulmage (Woodstock, VT) 6-0, 6-1, Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) bested Charlie Edlund (Hanover, MA) and senior Matt Minahan (Plymouth, MA) beat Robert Rosenbaum (Sharon, MA) 6-0, 6-2.

Both teams continue conference play next week, as Curry travels to Colby-Sawyer College for an 8:00 p.m. start on Tuesday, and WNEC hosts Endicott for a 3:00 p.m. match on Wednesday.
