Kirschner Named to All-TCCC Honorable Mention Team
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College freshman Gregory Kirschner (Williston Park, N.Y.) was named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Honorable Mention team. Kirschner earned the honor in singles, where he played at #1 for the Colonels during the 2010 season.

Ten different institutions from the TCCC were represented on the 2010 All-Conference Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, four major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected.

Nichols’ freshman Justin DeLuca was named TCCC Player of the Year and TCCC Rookie of the Year, Eastern Nazarene College senior Tyler Restrick was named TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Roger Williams’ Neil Caniga was honored as TCCC Coach of the Year and Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC men’s tennis coaches.

Joining DeLuca on the first team for singles were Roger Williams’ Jeff DeNunzio, Nichols’ David Drucker, Endicott’s Dan Murray, Colby-Sawyer’s Gustav Norberg, and Wentworth’s Juan Rodriguez. 

Two first team singles players were also named first team in doubles. The Wentworth tandem of Rodriguez and Dan Alexander, Colby-Sawyer’s duo of Norberg and Adam Whitman, and the team of Steve Masso and Andrew Martin from Salve Regina.

Second-team singles selections included Masso, Martin, Nichols’ Stephen Carella, Colby-Sawyer’s Ben Dabush, Roger Williams’ Dan Kleitz, and Salve Regina’s Chad Strong.

Second-team doubles honorees included the Nichols team of DeLuca and Tyler McLaughlin, the Endicott combo of Murray and Devon Locke, and the Salve Regina duo of Strong and Zachary Rosenfeld.

Nine players received honorable mention in singles. Alexander, Rosenfeld, and Whitman were joined by Kyle Baker of Roger Williams, Chris Holzinger, JonPaul Ouellette, and Brian Relihan from Western New England, Kirschner, and Daniel Young of Nichols. 

Five doubles teams also earned honorable mention, including Nichols’ Carella and Tony Ramsdell, Roger Williams Baker and Nate Rohman, Nichols’ Drucker and Eliot Wuhrmann, Wentworth’s Nate Gove and Ross Lyons, and the Western New England pair of Relihan and Mike Jones. 

DeLuca, a freshman from Mashpee, Mass., was honored as TCCC Player of the Year and TCCC Rookie of the Year after posting a 9-0 mark in singles at the #1 position in conference play.  DeLuca boasted an overall record of 19-0 in his freshman campaign, establishing a new school record for wins in a season. In doubles competition, he teamed with Tyler McLaughlin to compile a 7-3 record in conference play from the #1 position. 

Restrick, a senior from  Bel Air, Md., was selected as TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year for his outstanding work in the classroom.  A Business major, Restrick had a 3.79 cumulative GPA at Eastern Nazarene. On the court, he compiled a 4-6 doubles record in conference play, splitting time between the #1 and #2 slot. 

In his first season at Roger Williams directing both the men and women’s tennis programs, Caniga has led the Hawks to a perfect 11-0 mark in conference play, as they enter the 2010 TCCC playoffs as the #1 overall seed. His Hawks enter postseason play with a 14-6 overall record.
