Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season With 8-1 Loss at Nichols
DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men’s tennis team swept the singles side en route to an 8-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Curry Saturday at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The Bison conclude the regular season with a school-record 16-5 ledger and a 10-1 TCCC record to clinch the second seed in the TCCC Tournament. Curry drops to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in TCCC matches, but still qualifies for the conference tournament as the #8 seed.

The Bison led, 2-1, after doubles action, getting a decisive 8-3 win at the top flight from Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) and Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.). Tony Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) and Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) edged out Brian Leahy (Reading, Mass.) and Ben Radzicki (Sterling, Mass.), 8-6, to give the Bison a 2-0 lead at the second flight, but the Colonels held on for a 9-7 victory at the third flight when J.D. Moyer (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Tyler Dulmage (Woodstock, Vt.) defeated Nichols seniors Matthew Roach (Worcester, Mass.) and Kevin Pittz (Delmar, N.Y.).

David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) was the first to finish on the singles side, handing Charlie Edlund (Hanover, Mass.) a 6-0, 6-0 loss at No. 2 singles to extend his win streak to 14 matches. DeLuca quickly followed with a top-flight win by the same scores over Gregory Kirschner (Williston Park, N.Y.) to remain unbeaten on the year.

Dan Young (Washington Depot, Conn.) clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Radzicki at No. 6 singles for his 10th-straight victory, and the Bison wrapped up the match with a straight-set win from Carella at the third flight, a three-set rally from Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) at No. 5 singles, and a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the fourth flight from McLaughlin.
