Men's Tennis Blanked By Western New England, 9-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's tennis team ran its winning streak to a season high three matches after blanking visiting Curry 9-0 in windy conditions Saturday.

The Golden Bears, who won three of four matches in the last five days, raised their record to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Colonels fell to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Junior Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) led the way with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the number one singles position over freshman Gregory Kirschner (Williston Park, NY).

He also teamed with classmate Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, NY) for an 8-5 decision at the top doubles spot. Jones took his number two singles match by the score of 6-3, 6-1 over senior Brian Leahy (Reading, MA).

Freshman Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) had a 3-6, 6-2 (10-6 tiebreaker) win at the number four singles spot over junior Tyler Dulmage (Woodstock, VT), and teamed with sophomore JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) for an 8-3 win at number two doubles.

Juniors Travis Orszulak (Springfield, MA) and Matt Minahan (Plymouth, MA) each won their number five and six singles flights in straight sets over senior Ben Radzicki (Sterling, MA) and sophomore Thomas Bagley (Centerville, MA), respectively.
