Men's Tennis Falls 7-2 at Roger Williams in TCCC Opener

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Curry College Men’s Tennis Team dropped its conference opener, 7-2, at Roger Williams Wednesday afternoon in Bristol, R.I.

The Hawks swept doubles play, with Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) and Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) defeating Brian Leahy (Reading, Mass.) and Gregory Kirschner (Williston Park, N.Y.) 8-4 at #1. Kyle Baker (Bolton, Conn.) and Nate Rohman (Topsham, Maine) took the second flight 8-2 over Tyler Dulmage (Woodstock, Vt.) and Ben Radzicki (Sterling, Mass.), while Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) took the 8-5 win over J.D. Moyer (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Charlie Edlund (Hanover, Mass.).

In singles play, DeNunzio won 6-4, 6-0 over Kirschner at #1, with Erikson beating Edlund 6-1, 6-0 at #2. Rohman needed three sets to defeat Moyer at #5, but ultimately came away with the 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 win. Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) wrapped up the Hawks’ fourth win at singles with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Dulmage. The Colonels’ two wins on the day came at #3 and #6 singles, where Leahy defeated Baker 6-3, 6-2 and Radzicki won 6-4, 6-2, respectively.

Roger Williams (3-6, 1-0 TCCC) plays its second match in as many days tomorrow afternoon against Bridgewater State College at 4:00 p.m., with Curry (1-4, 0-1 TCCC) hosting Anna Maria College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (Match recap courtesy of RWU Sports Information)
