Men's Soccer Bows Out of CCC Tournament with 3-2 Loss to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Curry College men's soccer team saw its 2023 season come to a close with a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinal at Bayside Field.

With the defeat, Curry wraps up its season with an overall record of 9-7-3.

After a pair of Roger Williams goals in the first eight and a half minutes of the contest, Curry cut the lead in half with the seventh goal of the season from Adam Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.). The senior one-timed a cross from graduate student Richard Savage (Rye, N.Y.) that deflected home off a Hawk defender.

Roger Williams reclaimed the two-goal lead on a 31st minute penalty kick to take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

Just four and a half minutes into the second half, Curry climbed back to within one when junior Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) buried a Conor McCann (Hanover, Mass.) feed, making the score 3-2 with 40 minutes to play.

The Colonels had a handful of chances to draw level in the waning minutes, but could not break through. The best chance came on a Savage header off a corner with seconds to play that was tipped just wide by the RWU keeper as time expired.

Colonel sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y.) took the loss for the visitors despite making five saves.

Roger Williams advances to the CCC Championship game on Saturday, where they will face top-seeded Western New England.
