Men's Soccer Outlasts Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team topped Nichols College 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in a high-scoring Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.

With the victory, Curry advances to 9-4-3 overall on the season and 4-2-1 in CCC play. The win extends Curry's winning streak to four games, after the Colonels opened the year 0-2-1 in conference action.

The Colonels fell behind in the opening half when Nick Cancellaro scored for the Bison in the 18th minute, but sophomore Ean McGonigle (Rehoboth, Mass.) hopped on a Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) rebound and put in his second goal of the season.

Curry outshot the hosts 13-8 in the first half, but Cancellaro and McGonigle's tallies were the only ones to find the back of the net, and the teams went to the break knotted at one.

Drons tallied twice in just under seven minutes in the second half to help Curry put away the conference victory. The freshman got free on a pair of 1-on-1s with the Bison keeper and made no mistake either time, calming sliding both goals low past the on-charging netminder. Freshman Alex Bautista (Pawtucket, R.I.) was credited with an assist on Drons' second goal.

Nichols scored in the 84th minute to make things interesting, but could not find the equalizer as the Colonels closed out the win.

Curry's Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) made five saves to help his team to the key conference victory.

The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday against Suffolk for their final road game of the season. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
