Second Half Flurry Lifts Men's Soccer Past Nor'easters on Senior Night

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over the University of New England Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry moves to 8-4-3 overall on the season and 3-2-1 in the CCC. UNE moves to 1-12-1 and 0-6-0 in the conference.

Neither team scored in the opening half, although the Colonels dominated play in the period. Curry outshot the Nor'easters 16-1 in the half, and led 5-0 in corner kicks.

At halftime, Curry honored its three seniors in a special Senior Night ceremony. Dom Simpson (Annapolis, Md.), Nick Corso (Exeter, R.I.), and Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.) were joined on the field by their friends and families for the ceremony.

Once the second half got underway, Curry finally broke the ice with the game's first goal. Sophomore Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) took a feed from Corso just 28 seconds into the half to put the Colonels on top 1-0.

Less than four minutes later, the Colonels were awarded a penalty, and despite missing the initial attempt, Simpson hopped on the rebound and buried his first goal of the season.

The Simpson goal would hold up as the game's final tally as the Colonels claimed the 2-0 Senior Night shutout.

Curry junior goalkeeper Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) was not required to make a save to earn the shutout. UNE's Triston O'Hagan was sharp despite the defeat, making 13 saves.

Curry will return to action on Wednesday for a road CCC matchup against Nichols. Kick-off from Dudley is scheduled for 3 p.m.
