Men's Soccer Bested by Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Curry College men's soccer team fell short against Salve Regina University by a 3-1 final Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Toppa Field.

With the defeat, Curry falls to 4-3-3 overall on the season and 0-2-1 in the CCC.

Curry fell behind early and was never able to recover. Zeke Menendez found the back of the net for the Seahawks in just the eighth minute of play with an assist credited to Sam Winiarski to break the ice, before Alessandro Oggiano tallied in the 27th minute to extend the hosts' lead to 2-0.

At the half, Salve Regina still held its 2-0 lead, and held a narrow 8-7 lead in shots.

Nearly the entire second half passed without a change on the scoreboard, until Winiarski sealed Salve Regina's victory with an 86th minute tally. Curry's Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) ended the Salve Regina shutout just over a minute and a half later in the 88th minute on an unassisted tally, but the comeback effort would prove far too little too late as Salve Regina earned the 3-1 win.

The Colonels outshot the Seahawks 9-5 in the second half to finish the day with a 16-13 shot advantage.

Curry's Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) took the loss in goal, allowing three goals and turning away four shots.

Next up, Curry will return to the pitch with a non-conference road trip to Lesley University on Monday evening. Kick off is slated for 8 p.m.
