Men's Soccer Chops Down Elms

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team used a second half goal from freshman Isaiah Harris-Wolfe (Boston, Mass.) to defeat Elms College 2-1 Saturday evening in a non-conference matchup at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 2-1-1 on the young season, while Elms drops to 2-2-0.

Curry dominated much of the first half, but did not get on the board until the 25th minute. After a botched Elms clearance attempt, Colonel senior Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.) found himself all alone in the box and chipped the ball over the Blazer keeper for a 1-0 lead. The score would still be 1-0 when the whistle sounded to signal halftime.

Just 4:31 into the second half, Elms got on the board against the run of play on the first goal of the season for Jonathan Roach. The senior got on the end of a perfect over-the-top feed from Michael Lemke and deposited a low shot into the cage to knot the score at 1-1.

In the 74th minute, Curry sophomore Ean McGonigle (Rehoboth, Mass.) drew a penalty to give his team the chance to pull ahead, and the Colonels did just that. Harris-Wolfe stepped up to take the penalty kick and his initial bid was denied by rookie goalkeeper Ethan Sgarlata, but Harris-Wolfe stuck with the play and nodded home the rebound for the eventual game-winning goal.

Junior Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) did not make any saves for Curry, but was credited with the win. Sgarlata split the Blazer net with Aidan Berube, and the tandem combined for 10 saves.

Curry heavily controlled the run of play, outshooting Elms by a margin of 20-3 on the evening. Curry also held a significant edge in corner kicks at 10-1.

The Colonels will be back on the pitch on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. contest as they open CCC play on the road against Endicott.
