Men's Soccer Plays to Wild 5-5 Draw

PAXTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team played Anna Maria to a high-scoring 5-5 double overtime draw on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Caparso Field.

With the draw, both teams open the season with a record of 0-0-1

With the rains coming down, the first half was a wet back-and-forth shootout with a combined six goals scored, as the Colonels and Amcats went into intermission tied 3-3.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Every time the AMCATS took the lead, the Colonels would find the equalizer. The pivotal moment came in the final minute of regulation with Anna Maria having clung to a 5-4 lead for nearly 30 minutes. With 18.4 seconds to go in the period, Curry junior forward Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) scored out a cluster in front of the Anna Maria goal to send the game into overtime. Twenty more minutes was not enough to decide a winner, as both teams came away with a tie.

Anna Maria junior forward Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, R.I.) led the Amcats with two goals and an assist on the night. Rookie midfielder Rubelsi Moran (Holden, Mass.) made an immediate impact on the field, with one goal and two assists in his first collegiate game. Senior midfielder Nick Lawrence (North Attleboro, Mass.) posted one score and assisted on another while freshman Bryan Gonzalez (Bridgeville, Del.) scored his first career goal. Freshman goalkeeper David Flores (San Antonio, Texas) finished with five saves in net.

Curry senior forward Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.) carried the Colonels for much of the day, finishing with a hat trick. Freshman forward Isaiah Harris-Wolfe (Boston, Mass.) scored his first career goal.

Curry will be back on the pitch on Saturday when it plays its home opener at Katz Field. Kickoff between the Colonels and Southern Maine is slated for 1 p.m.
