MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match to Salve Regina on Wednesday evening. After the 7-1 victory, the Seahawks improve to 10-4-3 overall with a CCC record of 4-0-2. The Colonels' record falls to 2-13-1 overall with a 0-6-0 mark in league play.
The Colonels began the night by honoring the nine seniors on their roster, celebrating their contributions to the program over the past four seasons. As the match got underway, the Seahawks spoiled the festivities, as a third minute goal by Casey Kelly (Waldwick, N.J.), gave the visitors an early advantage. Evan MacDonald (Candia, N.H.) earned an assist on the play. Twelve minutes later, Salve struck again, as Dana Sundell (Nantucket, Mass.) cashed in off a pass from Evan Hilbie (Berlin, Conn.) for his sixth goal of the season. The seniors came back swinging for the Colonels, however, as Ali Pungi (Kinshasa, Congo) beat Seahawk goalie Seth Wollins (Wake Forest, N.C.) by powering through the ball, then found classmate Mitchell Forbes (Boxford, Mass.), who put in his first goal of the season and cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Unfortunately for the hosts, Salve got the score right back, as Rich Ventura (Floral Park, N.Y.) netted a goal in the 35th minute, off MacDonald's second helper of the night.
Over the next 20 minutes of play, Alessandro Oggiano (Stoughton, Mass.) doubled the Seahawks' score, tallying three goals. Nathan Costantino earned an assist on the second of the three goals, while Sundell nabbed the helper on the third. With 28 minutes remaining in regulation, Salve scored the final goal of the day, as Sundell found the net for the second time, this time with an assist from Pat Hegarty (Weymouth, Mass.). The senior's tally made the score 7-1, which would stand to be the night's final margin.
The Seahawk offense was led by Oggiano, whose eight shots (four on-goal) led to his hat trick. The Colonels were topped by seniors Forbes, Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Mass.), and Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.), who turned in two shots apiece. Wollins (5-1-3) earns the win with a single save, while Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass., 2-9-0) collected eight stops.
The Colonels will wrap up their road schedule when they head to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 26, for a 12:00 p.m. CCC contest. The Seahawks will also stay in-conference on Saturday, as they travel to Gordon College for a 6:00 p.m. match for their final away match of the regualer season.
