Men’s Soccer Defeated in Non-Conference Tilt

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lions of Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday evening. With the win, the Lions improve to 4-1, while the Colonels fall to 2-4.

Entering their fifth home contest in six matches, the Colonels looked to capitalize on the momentum they gained after a 2-1 victory on Wednesday. It was slow goings, however, for both squads in the first half of this one.  Curry outshot their guests in the first frame 7-5, but managed to get just one shot on goal, despite taking four corner kicks. Though the Lions picked up 11 fouls and a yellow card in the half, they managed to take four shots on goal, but had no luck in beating Curry goalkeeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.).

After 45 scoreless minutes in the first frame, the Lions controlled the early minutes of the second half, taking one shot and three corners in just the first ten minutes. Though the hosts weathered the storm for the time being, the 0-0 tie was finally broken in the 61st minute, as Charlie Swann (London, England) scored his seventh goal of the year off an assist from Mohamed Gouriche (Weymouth, Mass.) to give Eastern Nazarene the edge. The Colonels collected just two shots over the the remainder of the contest, failing to find the equalizer and watching the Lions walk away with a 1-0 victory.

Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.) led the Colonels with three shots, but it was Ryan Brady (South Weymouth, Mass.) who took Curry's lone shot on goal. Swann led the Lions with six shots, three of which were on goal. DeMaio (2-4-0) tallied six saves on the day, while Eastern Nazarene goalie Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass., 3-1-0) earns the win and registers a single save.

Curry resumes play with a 4:00 p.m. at Lasell University on Tuesday, September 17. The Lions head back home to take on the Fitchburg State Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18.
