Men's Soccer Falls to Visiting Salem State, 2-0, in Home Opener

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to visiting Salem State University, 2-0, on Monday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field . With the loss, the Colonels record drops to 0-1-1 overall. With the win the Vikings move to 1-1 on the season.

Curry was on the attack for most of the first half, outshooting Salem 13-6. Seven of those shots landed on net with the Vikings goaltender, sophomore Chris Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.), making the stops.  Just three of Salem's strikes were on goal with two getting past the Colonels goaltender, sophomore Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.).  Salem earned both scores from freshmen Mayele Malango (Lowell, Mass.).  The first came with only 3:30 off the clock and was assisted by sophomore Grace Dos Santos (Brockton, Mass.).  Malango's second on the day was at the 14:21 minute mark with the assist coming from freshmen Nahuel Aligbay (Leominster, Mass.).

The Colonels led again in the second half with a 13-3 margin in shots but Jimenez held the Colonels scoreless.  He earned the shutout for the Vikings with 13 saves.  DeMaio stopped all three shots he faced in the second and finished the contest with four saves.

Curry had nine corners while Salem had five.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 6 when they travel to Lasell College for a 4:00 p.m. start. The Vikings travel to Pine Manor also on Wednesday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m.
