Men's Soccer Knocked Off 4-1 by Visiting Western New England

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England, 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Golden Bears improve to 10-7 overall and 8-1 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 10-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the CCC.

Western New England controlled the first half outshooting Curry 15-10 and netting goals.  The Golden Bear's first score came just 11:53 into the half.  Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) sent Maurice Young (Walpole, Mass.) a through ball and Young one-timed it into the back of the net.  Young was followed by Chad Burke (Boxford, Mass.) just three minutes later.  Burke received a pass from Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) and one-timed it past the glove of the Colonel's goalkeeper Adam DiBrina (Sudbury, Ontario).  DiBrina was replaced by Curry's Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) in net after giving up the two goals and making six saves.  Johnson was scored on at the 20:43 minute mark after Remillard tallied one off a helper from Pingree.  Western New England earned their fourth off a free-kick from the 20-yard line.  The Colonels committed a foul and Alan Haberern (Durham, Conn.) was awarded the kick.  Haberern sent it high into the top left corner for the score.  The Golden Bear's goalkeeper Tyler Lavigne (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was solid in net making five stops holding Curry scoreless.

The Colonels had the advantage in the second stanza at 16-7.  Curry controlled most of the final 45 minutes pressuring the Golden Bears defense and Lavigne. They were able to hold Western New England scoreless and without the shutout.  Curry netted their lone goal of the game with 1:57 left on the board.  Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) sent Rolando Montero (Norwalk, Conn.) a pass through the Golden Bears defense and Montero connected on it for the tally.

The Colonels finished with 26 shots and nine corner kicks.  The Golden Bears finished with 22 shots and one corner kick.

DiBrina made six saves in 14:48 in net allowing two goals.  Johnson made five saves in net for the loss.  Lavigne made 12 stops in goal for the win.
