Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 to Visiting Bates College

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Bates College, 2-1, on Wednesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win Bobcats improve to 7-3-1 overall. The Colonels fall to 10-5 on the season.

The teams battled each other to a scoreless first half.  Bates had the advantage in shots at 10-5.  The Bobcats landed five of those shots on net with the Colonels goaltender Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) coming up with the saves.  Curry forced the Bates goaltender Sam Polito (Far Hills, N.J.) to make three stops.

The second half saw the Colonels with a slight advantage in shots at 8-6.  It was Bates however who scored the eventual game-winner at the 66:59 minute mark.  Drew Munoz (Dallas, Texas) netted an unassisted goal after collecting a loose ball inside the 18-yard box.  The Colonels fought back and just seven minutes later tied the match.  Roy Butlin (Milton, Mass.) received a through pass from Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) and one-timed it into the back of the net past Polito.  Over the next ten minutes each team showed chances to tally a go-ahead score.  Both goalkeepers were solid between the pipes coming up with big saves.  With 6:38 left to play however, it was Bates who was able to earn the 2-1 victory.  Ben Lyons (San Rafael, Calif.) struck the ball just outside the box which sailed over the head of Johnson.  Curry fought hard to tie the match but time expired leaving them with the loss.

The Colonels finished with 13 shots and one corner kick. The Bobcats finished with 16 shots and six corner kicks.

Johnson made seven saves in net. Polito also made seven stops in goal for the win.

Curry returns to action on Friday, October 16 when they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams in a 6:00 p.m. game start. Bates returns to action when they host Tufts on Saturday, October 17 in a 2:00 p.m. start.
