Men's Soccer Notches 10th Win of Season, Defeating Westfield State, 4-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team defeated Westfield State, 4-0, on Wednesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win Curry improves to 10-1 overall. The Owls fall to 2-6-1 on the season.

The Colonels dominated the first half netting three goals and holding onto that lead into half-time.  Curry first got on the board at the 31:16 mark.  Senior Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) was awarded a corner a corner kick. The ball ricocheted off an Owls defender and senior Rolando Montero (Norwalk, Conn.) was there to collect the rebound and send it into the back of the net.  Cotnoir extended Curry's lead after he tallied his first of two on the night off an assist by classmate Tim Stein (Smithfield, R.I.).  Cotnoir took a chip shot that sailed over the head of Westfield's sophomore netminder Marc Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.).  With just 3:08 left to play in the first, freshman Tristan Eckert (Weaverville, N.C.) netted a goal after one-timing the ball past the glove of Patnaude. Sophomore Hunter Duval (Branford, Conn.) sent Eckert a through ball for the assist.

The Colonels controlled the final stanza as they outshout the Owls by a large margin.  Three of those shots landed on net with Patnaude making one stop and Cotnoir scoring his second and his team's fourth of the night.  Cotnoir's goal came with just over 10 minutes to play.  The senior was able to maneuver the ball past a Westfield defender and send it low into the back corner of the net.  The Owls struggled to get it into the Curry defensive zone as the Colonels defense was very strong.  Junior goaltender Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) was solid in net making 10 saves.  Johnson also earned his sixth shutout on the season while his team earned their tenth victory.

The Colonels finished with 11 shots and three corner kicks. The Owls finished with three shots and zero corner kicks.

Johnson made 10 saves in net for the win. Patnaude made two stops in goal in the loss.
