Eckert Nets Two as Men's Soccer Defeats Johnson & Wales, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Curry College men's soccer team defeated Johnson & Wales, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon. With the win Curry improves to 9-0 overall and undefeated on the season. The Wildcats fell to 5-3 on the season.

The Wildcats controlled the first half outshooting the Colonels by a large margin of 12-2.  Colonel's netminder, Dan Johnson held Johnson & Wales scoreless turning away nine of their shots.  Curry couldn't didn't force the Wildcats goaltender Nick Tolman to make a save as neither of their strikes were one net.  Johnson & Wales also had 2 corner kicks to Curry's zero.

The second half was a different story with the Colonels coming out on fire netting the first score just 6:07 into the stanza.  Tristan Eckert tallied his first of two on the day when he dribbled the ball to the 20-yard line and shot it over the head of Tolman.  Just minutes later the Wildcats had their chance to tie it up when a hand ball was called in Curry's defensive zone giving them a penalty kick.  Byron Alborleda was awarded the PK and the chance to tie the match.  Johnson however denied Alborleda the tying score making a huge diving save to keep the Colonels lead alive.  Eckert netted his second and eventual game-winner at the 60 minute mark when he saw Tolman far out of the goal and took advantage lofting the ball once again over his head.  Johnson & Wales finally got on the board and cut Curry's lead down to one with 13:57 left to play.  Teagan Drake received a cross pass from teammate Yohann Assouramou at the top of the box and drilled it past the glove of Johnson.  Tolman made his only save of the match in the final stanza while Johnson made another three to help secure the 2-1 victory.

The Colonels finished with 13 shots and four corner kicks. The Wildcats finished with 19 shots and eight corner kicks.

Johnson made an impressive 12 saves in net for the win. Tolman made just one stop in goal in the loss.
