Men's Soccer Falls to Roger William 3-1 in CCC Quarterfinals

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team moved on to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 3-1 win over Curry College.

With cold and rainy conditions, solid attempts were hard to come by early on in the contest. Curry maintained possession in its offensive half for a majority of the period.

Despite their limited opportunities, the Hawks managed to break through in the 22nd minute. Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) took the ball down the left side and got past the Colonel defense. After bringing the ball into the box, Janson fired a shot to the middle of the net, putting RWU on top 1-0.

The Hawks' lead held on for the rest of the first half. In the second half, the Hawks tacked on another goal halfway into the period. In the 61st minute, Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, Conn.) was able to find the ball in the box and fired a shot into the middle of the net.

Curry managed to cut the lead to within one in the 77th minute. Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) found the loose ball on the right side of the box and converted the shot for his tenth score of the season.

However, the Hawks were able to get the goal back less than two minutes later. James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) took a long shot from the outside the right side of the box for the final goal of the game.

Tom Mangels (Garden City, N.Y.) made eight saves in the win, while Curry keeper Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.) had three stops in the loss.

Roger Williams (11-6-2) moves on to the CCC Semifinals on Wednesday. Curry closes out the season as 10-9-1. (Game Recap Courtesy of Roger Williams Sports Information)
