Men's Soccer Blanks Eastern Nazarene 2-0

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Curry Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Lions slide to 5-8-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The win elevates the Colonels to 10-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in league action.
 
At halftime, the two sides each registered seven shots while the visitors earned a pair of corner kicks in the opening frame.
 
Curry broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute as Rolando Montero notched his third goal of the season. Nick Gilman lofted a ball over the Eastern Nazarene backline to Montero in the penalty area. The freshman’s tough-angle shot from the right side bounced into the left corner of the cage to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.
 
The visiting side tacked on its second score of the match in the 65th minute to grab a 2-0 edge. Curry was awarded a free kick in its offensive third of the field on the left flank. Devin Sadlers passed the ball to the center of the pitch to an unmarked Montero. Montero controlled the ball at the top of the penalty box before rifling a shot into the net for his second of the contest and fourth of the fall.
 
Curry outshot the Lions 11-7 in the second stanza to finish with an 18-14 gap on the afternoon. The Colonels were awarded five corner kicks in the match and conceded zero.
 
Sophomore Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made seven saves in goal for the hosts while Nick Barber stopped two shots between the posts for the away team.
 
Rookie William Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) paced Eastern Nazarene with three shots on the day, including one on target.
 
Up next, the Lions will host Gordon October 20 at 1:30 pm as part of Homecoming at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  Curry travels to Becker College on October 15 for a 7:00 p.m. game start.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Eastern Nazarene Sports Information).
