Men's Soccer Tripped Up at Conference Foe Gordon College, 2-0

WENHAM, Mass.— Forced to move their game from the Quad to the turf at the Brigham Athletic Complex due to inclement weather, the Fighting Scots did not let the change of venue derail their drive to stay perfect in conference play, claiming a 2-0 shutout win over the visiting Colonels of Curry College to improve to 5-0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Playing through bouts of heavy rain, the Scots attacked heavily in the opening minutes until midfielder Evan Crocker (Fr./Akron, Ohio) finished off a feed from forward Andrew Vandervoort (So./Memphis, Tenn.) to give Gordon the 1-0 lead. With both teams vying for possession in the slick conditions, play remained balanced throughout the remainder of the first and the Scots headed into the break holding the slight one-goal advantage.

Second half play would favor the Scots, however, who outshot Curry 12-4 in the stanza and netted an insurance goal on a solo effort from Vandervoort in the 65th minute to put the game out of reach for the guest Colonels.

Kellen Kasiguran (Jr./Oakwood Village, Ohio) had a strong showing on the day in helping to control midfield possession for Gordon, while Micah Linn (Sr./Germantown, Tenn.) and Trevor Hinshaw (So./San Jose, Calif) together with keeper Spencer Lord (Sr./North Stonington, Conn.), who tallied seven saves in the win, helped anchor the backfield to preserve the shutout.

Curry keeper James Oliver (So./Hanover, Mass.) turned away 10 shots in the losing effort for the Colonels, who move to 9-9-1 overall, 2-5-1 in conference.

Gordon will travel to Roger Williams on Saturday, October 22 for a CCC match slated to begin at 12:30p.m. Curry will host CCC foe Salve Regina on the same day at 1:30p.m.
