Men's Soccer Absorbs 1-0 Loss at Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior John Geleski (Wayne, N.J.) scored with 12:28 left in regulation and junior John Longo (Needham, Mass.) turned aside four shots as the Wentworth men’s soccer team ran its win streak to three with a 1-0 win over Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

The Colonels had a pair of corner kicks in a span of 1:03 early in the contest but could not convert either into a scoring chance. Both teams had chances to score, but would come up empty.

In the 42nd minute Wentworth freshman Arberi Ferraj (Moosup, Conn.) fired a shot from the top of the box that was cleared away at the last minute by Curry’s back-line players. The Leopards held a slim, 6-4 shot advantage through the first 45:00.

Senior Dan Santacroce (Northford, Conn.) fired a shot from 30 yards out that was saved by Curry senior Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.), the shot off the rebound by Geleski appeared to give Wentworth a 1-0 lead, but the goal was negated due to an offside call. Sanatcroce rifled a shot from 25 yards out in the 58th minute that appeared to be going in, but hit the crossbar.

Geleski broke the ice when he took a pass from junior Matt Racca (Wakefield, R.I.) and fired a shot to the low right side.

Newsome finished with six saves for the Colonels who were outshot 18-11.

With the win, Wentworth improves to 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in CCC play. The Leopards play their final regular season home game on Saturday against Roger Williams. Curry falls to 8-7-1 (2-3-1) and hosts the University of New England on Saturday evening. (Game Recap Courtesy of Wentworth Sports Information)
