Men's Soccer Shut Out, 1-0, by Visiting CCC Rival Nichols

MILTON, Mass.- Nichols College defeated Curry College, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action on Saturday in Milton.  With the win, the Bison improve to 8-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 8-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCC.

The Bison outshot the Colonels just 13-7 in the opening frame, with eight of those shots landing on goal and one finding the back of the net.  Junior Scott Corderre (Thompson, Conn.) found an open teammate right outside the box.  Senior Daniel Smith (Verona, N.J.) one-timed the ball for the only score of the half.  The Colonel’s senior goalkeeper Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) tried to make the jumping save, but the ball sailed over his head and into the top right corner of the net.  Out of Curry’s seven shots, just three landed on net.  Nichol’s senior goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) kept the Colonels scoreless making three saves.

Nichols ended the half with 13 shots, eight on net, three corners and three fouls.  Curry ended with seven shots, three on net, two corners and five fouls.

The second half saw both teams battling back and forth with shots. The Bison again held just a slight advantage in with 11 and the Colonels eight.  Strong goalkeeping from both teams allowed for a scoreless frame. Smith’s goal would be the lone score of the match and the game-winner.
