Sadlers Lone Goal Lifts Men's Soccer to a 1-0 Victory Over Visiting Bridgewater State University

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Bridgewater State University, 1-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday in Milton.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 8-5-1 overall.  The Bears fell to 4-5-1 overall.

Despite Bridgewater outshooting Curry, 13-7 in the first half, the Colonels were the ones to score first and take the 1-0 lead into intermission.  Senior goalkeeper Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J) made seven saves to keep the Bears scoreless. The Colonels goal came off a penalty kick at the 25:36 minute mark.  Junior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) was awarded the PK and shot the ball low into the right corner of the net past Bridgewater’s junior goalkeeper Joe Person (Springfield, Mass.). 

The Bears had 13 shots, seven on net, four corners and five fouls in the half.  The Colonels had seven shots, two on net, one corner and five fouls. 

Curry came out strong in the second frame and had 15 shots to Bridgewater’s 11.  The Colonels lone goal by Sadlers would end up being the game-winner.  The Bears had their chances but could not find the back of the net.  Curry’s defense along with Newsome played solid for 90 minutes to help their team to their third shutout of the season and fourth consecutive win. 

The Bears finished with 24 total shots, 11 on net, seven fouls and seven corner kicks.  The Colonels finished with 22 shots, eight on net, nine fouls and three corner kicks.

Newsome, who made 11 saves, earned the win in net for Curry. Person finished with seven saves in the loss for Bridgewater.

The Colonels will host Nichols College on Saturday, October 8, in a conference match-up set for an 11:00 a.m. contest. The Bears will host Salem State on Saturday, October 8, for a 1:00 p.m. game start.
