Ford Scores Game Winner as Men's Soccer Slips Past Mount Ida, 1-0

NEWTON, Mass. - The Mount Ida College men’s soccer team struggled offensively Tuesday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts falling 1-0 to visiting Curry College in a non-conference bid.  The Mustangs were only able to get off seven shots in the contest, one that was on net, while the visitors fired away all afternoon with 20 shots.

Mount Ida snaps a two game winning streak after capturing their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of 201 this past Sunday over Rivier College (1-0).  The Mustangs fall to 2-3 overall and remain at 1-0 in conference competition.  The visitors improve to 3-3 overall.

The Mustang defense held strong all day with the Colonels pressuring offensively while the hosts struggled to create any opportunity to score.  After nearly 40 minutes with no scoring, the visitors converted on a cross in the middle of the box right at the end of the first half.

Visiting freshman forward Ethan Ford (Brunswick, Maine/Kents Hill) deposited a shot into the left corner of the net on a feed from junior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) for the 1-0 advantage.

The second half saw a lot of offensive action from the visitors firing 11 shots in the stanza while the Mustangs were only able to muster three.  The Mustangs had a shot to tie the game on a very legitimate chance in the 68th minute but the shot flew wide left for a failed attempt.

Neither team was able to convert in the final set handing the visitors the 1-0 non-conference win on a hot day.

Mount Ida goalkeeper Mat Pils (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) kept the Mustangs alive in the game notching eight saves while Colonel netminder senior Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J./South Kent) was tested much tallying only one save.

The Mustangs will travel to GNAC foe Emerson College Saturday afternoon for their second conference bid of the season with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.  Curry will host Endicott College on Saturday, September 17 for an 11:00 a.m. game.
