Sadlers Nets a Hat Trick as Men's Soccer Downs Eastern Nazarene 4-0

QUINCY, Mass. —The Curry College men’s soccer team was held in check for most of the first half but a second half scoring out-burst and a hat trick from sophomore Devin Sadlers (Somerset, MA) propelled the Colonels past the hosting Eastern Nazarene College Lions, 4-0. Curry fired off twenty shots, ten on goal, and played solid defense in route to the TCCC shutout Wednesday afternoon at Eastern Nazarene’s home field, Veteran’s Memorial Stadium.

Curry struck early when a cross into the box deflected off of Curry’s Brandon Martins (Attleboro, MA) toward Stadlers who quickly tapped the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead at 4:54. Eastern Nazarene recovered and played sound defense for the rest of the first half as keeper Andrew Trice made two saves to send his team into the half down 1-0.

Just 8:40 into the second half, Curry scored again as Martins positioned himself near the keeper and bicycle-kicked a deflection into the goal to put the Colonels ahead, 2-nil. At the 57 minute mark, Sadlers stuck again as teammate Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, MA) headed a ball toward Sadlers who sent a header past Eastern Nazarene’s keeper into the net. Sadlers completed the hat trick just past the 79 minute mark as he beat Lions replacement keeper Chris Cherry to a loose ball and tapped it in for the score.

Sadlers doubled his season goal total with his three goals bringing him to 6 on the year. Chris Scearbo led Eastern Nazarene offensively taking 5 shots. Josh Kaplan fired off three shots, two on goal, for the Lions.

Curry goalkeeper Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, NJ) led all keepers with 5 saves. Eastern Nazarene’s Andrew Trice made 4 saves before leaving the game with an injury while replacement goalkeeper Cherry recorded two saves.

The win brings Curry to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. With the loss, Eastern Nazarene drops to 1-7 and 0-5 in TCCC play.

Eastern Nazarene will play their next match on Saturday as they host TCCC opponent Nichols College at 3 pm. Curry will host conference foe Gordon College in a 1:30 pm match.
