Men's Soccer Downs Wheelock 9-1

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Wheelock College 9-1 on Sunday in Milton.  With the win the Colonels improve to 4-6 overall.  The Wildcats fall to 0-7. 

After two tough conference loses, the Colonels were ready for a win.  They wasted no time in taking control of the game early.  Curry outshot Wheelock 28-0 in just the first half and posted four goals.  The Colonels first goal came at the 4:11 mark when sophomore Brandon Martins (Attleboro, MA) crossed the ball to freshman Brendan Lonek (Epping, NH) who one-timed it into the back of the net.  Junior Michael Griffin (Dalton, MA) scored Curry’s second goal from an assist by junior Tim Jarvis (Newbury, MA).  Just over two minutes later sophomore Zachary Kumin (Needham, MA) made a through pass to sophomore Devin Sadlers (Somerset, MA) who placed the ball in the top-right corner of the net.   The final goal of the half came off a header from freshman Ephesien Simpson (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) from a corner kick taken by junior Daniel Fisher (Longmeadow, MA). 

The second half proved to be much of the same with the Colonels dominating the Wildcats.  Curry got their first goal of the half at the 1:12 mark.  Sophomore Michael Quintanilla (Norwood, MA) scored his first goal of the season from an assist by freshman Matthew Perry (Lynnfield, MA).  Simpson scored his second of the game and the team’s sixth from an assist from Fisher.  At the 12:00 minute mark freshman Drew Webster (Petersburg, NY) scored his first collegiate goal when he shot the ball outside the box and placed it perfectly over Wheelock’s goaltender.  The Colonels final two goals of the game came from freshman Perry, his first of the season, from an assist by Webster and Quintanilla who scored his second of the game from freshman Stephen Casamassima (Clementon, NJ).  The Wildcats ruined the chances of a Curry shutout when junior Zach Bushway (Bethlehem, NH) scored an unassisted goal.  This was Wheelock’s first goal scored this season.

In net for Wheelock was sophomore Dan Campbell (Northboro, MA) who made 22 saves in the loss.  Curry saw three different goaltenders in net.  Junior Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, NJ) played in the first half and saw no shots.  Freshman Robert Lematua (Vashon, WA) saw his first time in net this season.  Lematua played 34:02 minutes, made one save and allowed one goal.  Freshman Tyler Daniel (Taunton, MA) also played in net for the first time this season. He played for 10:58 minutes and did not see a shot on net.  

The Colonels will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday, September 29 for a 4:30 p.m. contest. Wheelock travels to Emerson College on Wednesday, September 29 for a 5:30 p.m. game start.
