Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Salve Regina University in a 15-11 final on Wednesday night at Gaudet Field.

Senior Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.) led the way with four goals for the home squad. Graduate student Ethan Robson (Lincoln, R.I.) followed with three goals and a helper while sophomore Brendan Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.) and senior Brendan Kelly (Long Beach, N.Y.) each chipped in with two goals and an assist each.

Sophomore Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.) paced the Colonels with four goals. Graduate student Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) added a hat trick and one assist while freshman Jack Dacey (Guilford, Conn.) tallied two goals.

Curry netted the lone two goals in the opening quarter. Perfetuo scored a man-up marker coming off an assist from graduate student Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) with 10:47 on the clock. Stebbins found the back of the net for the last score of the frame, coming unassisted.

The second quarter featured 11 goals, with the Seahawks having the slight edge, 6-5. Salve Regina registered five straight, capped off with two straight from the stick of Leary. The Colonels snapped the run with two of their own. Freshman Sawyer Allen (Sutton, Mass.) and Perfetuo registered markers exactly two minutes apart to make the score 5-4 in favor of Salve Regina. Robson extended the lead to two with a goal, but Curry closed the quarter strong with a 3-0 spurt to give the Colonels a 7-6 advantage at the half.

Salve Regina opened the third quarter with four straight goals to build a 10-7 lead. Stebbins and Perfetuo followed with scores of their own while sophomore Ryan Reilly (Hingham, Mass.) and Kelly rounded out the scoring as the Seahawks carried a 12-9 edge heading into the final quarter.

Salve Regina started the fourth on another 3-0 run to extend the lead to six (15-9) with 8:28 to play. DeLeary and Stebbins closed out the scoring as the contest would end in the 15-11 final.

Junior Ryan Chambers (Wakefield, Mass.) registered the win in goal for the Seahawks, converting 17 saves against 28 shots. Freshman Evan Falandys (Leominster, Mass.) recorded 14 stops in the loss.

Curry (3-6 overall) will welcome in Nichols College on Saturday, April 24 for a 1:00 p.m. start. Salve Regina (4-3 overall) travels to the Wentworth Institute of Technology for its next contest on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
