Senior Reflection: Grant Callanan - Men's Lacrosse

Senior Reflection: Grant Callanan - Men's Lacrosse

MILTON, Mass. – Following the cancellation of the spring seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Senior Days, the Curry College Athletic Department wanted to give the senior student-athletes time to reflect on their career with the Colonels.

We continue our Senior Reflection web series and today we have Grant Callanan (Tewksbury, Mass.) from men's lacrosse:

Major: Nursing

Favorite Thing About Your Sport: My favorite thing about lacrosse is just being able to get together with all your best friends and competing against each other or another jersey.

Favorite Moment on the Field With the Colonels: If I have to choose a favorite moment, then I would have to choose the last one. The last moments that we were on the field together at the US Lacrosse Facility. When that last game finished up, all of us came together and just embraced it. All 12 of us seniors knew that these were our last moments on a field together and we all just stood around for what felt like an hour and laughed, cried, and made the most of it. Nobody wanted to go back into the locker room or take their jersey off for the last time.

What Being a Student-Athlete Has Taught You: Being a student-athlete taught me time management and how to balance a heavy workload. It also taught me to give 110% at all times, whether that be fighting for a ground ball, studying for a big test, or preparing for an interview.

What You'll Miss Most About Your Team, Curry, and Being a Student-Athlete: What I'll miss most is all of the guys that I've gone through the past four years with. The memories that I've made with a lot of these guys are some that I'll have for the rest of my life.

Plans Post-Graduation and How Being a Student-Athlete Has Prepared You For Your Future Career Goals: Post-graduation, I plan on taking my NCLEX exam and beginning to work as an RN in an ICU somewhere in Boston. I hope to eventually continue my education with my master's degree and become a Nurse Anesthetist. Being a student-athlete has helped to prepare me for the workload and mental/physical challenges I may encounter along the way.

What Advice You Would Give to Future Colonel Student-Athletes: Just like many of my other teammates have said already here, don't take a single second for granted. Our final season got pulled out from under us and we'll never get those moments back. Make as many memories as you can with the people around you and grow friendships that will extend beyond your four years here.
