BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with an undefeated conference record for the second consecutive season as the 10th-ranked Gulls beat CCC opponent Curry 16-7 at Endicott Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Endicott will enter the 2015 CCC Tournament as the top seed with a 13-3 overall record and with a bye through to the semifinal round.
Endicott (13-3, 8-0 CCC) awaits the official seeding information from the conference but is slotted to play in the CCC Semifinals on Wednesday, April 29th with a 4:00 p.m. start time. The Gulls will be playing in their 16th-straight CCC Tournament since joining the league for the 2000 season. The program has won seven conference championships with the last coming in 2011.
Senior Ian Knechtle (New Canaan, Conn.), junior Ben Katzen (Blauvelt, N.Y.), and freshman Charles Goulburn (Basking Ridges, N.J.) all factored into Endicott's strong defensive stand as Knechtle and Katzen each had three caused turnovers and Goulburn tallied two fourth quarter playing time. The Gulls would cause 15 of Curry's 30 turnovers.
Endicott was able to generate offensive opportunities thanks to their defense as they outshot the Colonels 45-34 in the game and saw 11 different players score goals. Three goals apiece for seniors Jonathan Morgan (Lake Panamoka, N.Y.) and Kyle Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) as well as two points and two assists by sophomore attacker Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) led the offense for much of the game.
Sophomore attacker Kyle Wallack (Madison, Conn.) took advantage of his time on the field with a goal and an assist as did Carter Glenn (Underhill, Vt.), Thomas Harvey (Huntington, N.Y.), Mitchell Tapley (Falmouth, Maine), and Doug Richardson (Falmouth, Maine) who all scored single goals.
Senior attacker and five-time CCC Offensive Player of the Week Nick Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) tallied his 50th goal of the season in the win while senior midfielder Harrison Cotter (Lordship, Conn.) found the back of the net as did sophomore attacker Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.).
Curry was led by two goals from senior midfielder Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind.) and a goal apiece from Brendan Strobel (Trumbull, Conn.), Connor McKeon (Larchmont, N.Y.), Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.), and Joseph Grogan (Sandwich, Mass.).
Colonels face-off man Steven Grogan (Sandwich, Mass.) won 16-of-26 attempts with 10 groundballs while scoring a man-up goal eight seconds after Strobel's mark in the fourth quarter as Curry attempt to make a late comeback.
In between the pipes for Curry, senior goalie Daniel Martin (Pittsfield, Mass.) was under heavy fire and responded with 12 saves on 18 shots on goal. Martin's sophomore teammate Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) suffered the loss despite making five saves.
For Endicott, junior goalie Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) earned the win in just over 35 minutes of playing time and five saves while sophomore Kenny Sturgess (Hampstead, N.H.) made nine saves in 24:52 minutes of playing time. (Game Recap Courtesy of Endicott Sports Information)
