Men's Lacrosse Falls at Gordon, 12-8, in CCC Action

WENHAM, Mass. — The Fighting Scots netted six unanswered goals down the stretch of the fourth quarter to overtake the lead in an eventual 12-8 win over the visiting Colonels of Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup tonight at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex.

With the win the Scots improve to 4-5 overall and an even 2-2 in conference, while the Colonels slip to 6-3 overall, 0-2 in league action.

The Scots came out of gates firing on all cylinders offensively, as Adam Quinn (Sr./Gloucester, Mass.) buried back-to-back goals to open the scoring on the day followed by single tallies from Mio Sison (Fr./Warren, Mich.) and Matt Dantona (Fr./Syosset, N.Y.) to leave Curry behind 4-0 with just under four minutes to go in the first quarter. Curry then got on the board for their first tally when Joseph Natale (Jr./Haverhill, Mass.) took advantage of a man-up situation to bury a solo effort at the 2:28 mark. That gap quickly closed even more in the waning seconds of the first when Sean Gallagher (Sr./Topsfield, Mass.) finished a Ronald Jensen (Fr./Zionsville, Ind.) dish with 21 seconds on the clock and Natale converted from Gallagher off the ensuing face-off to make it 4-3 at the end of the quarter.

Looking to put a stop to the Colonels' momentum, Wes Chittick (Sr./Glenside, Pa.) bested Curry keeper Michael Hibbard (Sr./North Chelmsford, Mass.) on an unassisted effort just 28 seconds into the second stanza to open the Scots' lead back up to two. From there the Colonels gained increasing traction on the attack, going on a 4-0 run over the remainder of the second quarter and into the first minute of the third to grab control of the lead, 7-5. And though Gordon's Sison put an end to that run with an impressive man-down unassisted score with 2:47 to play in the third, Curry's Natale responded at the top of the final frame with his fourth tally of the outing to leave the Scots trailing by two.

That goal proved to be the last of the night for Curry, however, as the Scots went on a 6-0 run behind a hat trick from Dan Perednia (Sr./Granby, Conn.) and a goal apiece from Sison, Quinn, and Sam Spellman (Fr./Lewes, Del.) to secure the four-goal win.

Quinn and Sison paced the win with three goals and an assist each, while Perednia finished with three goals, Chittick with one goal and two assists, Dantona with one goal, one assist, Spellman with a single score, and Ian Knechtle (So./New Canaan, Conn.) with one assist. Keeper Houston Zemanski (Jr./Annapolis, Md.) turned away nine for the win.

Leading Curry's effort was Natale with four goals and one assist and netminder Hibbard, who rejected an impressive 21 of the Scots' attempts on net in the loss. Additionally, Connor Arnold (So./Clifton Park, N.Y.) recorded a pair of goals and an assist, Gallagher finished with one of each, and Jensen handed out two assists.

The Scots look to claim their third in a row as they host CCC opponent Wentworth on Thursday, April 5 at 4:00p.m. Curry will host Roger Williams in a CCC tilt on Saturday, April 7 at 11:00a.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Gordon Sports Information)
