Curry College ice hockey received several accolades from the American Hockey Coaches Association, headlined by Shane Soderwall, who earned the 2025 Sid Watson Award, an honor given to the best DIII men's player in NCAA hockey. Soderwall and Eelis Laaksonen were also named the 2024-25 CCM Hockey/AHCA Division II-III Men's All-American Hockey Teams, while Peter Roundy earned AHCA Coach of the Year.
Soderwall is the first player from Curry to receive the Sid Watson Award. After making himself known with an NCAA record-tying 98 saves in an NCAA quarterfinals game last season, Soderwall has taken his play to a new level in his sophomore year. Soderwall broke his program record for shutouts in a season with eight this year, and now holds the program record for shutouts in a career with 13, doing so in just two years. He also broke the program record for wins in a season, currently sitting at a 24-3-0 record. His 1.45 GAA average is 3rd in the country, with the two players in front of him playing 600 fewer minutes than him. His .945 save percentage is also 3rd in the country, with the two ahead of him making half as many saves, earning him the honor of being named Conference of New England Player and Goalie of the Year. Soderall was also named the conference's Elite 20 winner, as he sports a perfect 4.0 GPA. Soderwall stands out as one of, if not the best goalie in college hockey, earning First Team All-American East for his outstanding and record-breaking season.
Senior forward Eelis Laaksonen joins Soderwall as an All-American, earning East Second Team as the Colonels' go-to offensive player. Laaksonen leads Curry in goals and points with 14 and 25. He also dished out 11 assists while leading the team with a +20 plus/minus stat.
In addition to leading his Curry men's ice hockey to their first conference championship since 2011 and first berth into the Frozen Four, head coach Peter Roundy has sculpted this year's team into one of the best in program history, earning AHCA Coach of the Year honors. Roundy's squad posted a program-best 25-3 record heading into conference playoffs, and the No. 1 ranked Colonels skate into the NCAA tournament semifinals sporting a 17-game win streak.
Roundy and the Curry men's ice hockey team look to add to his impressive list of career accolades with a tournament victory as the Colonels travel to New York to take on host Utica in the night's second semifinal game on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
