East Boston, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team won their ninth straight game on Saturday, defeating Suffolk 4-0, improving to 17-3-0 on the season, and 11-2-0 in CNE play. The Rams drop to 8-10-2 and 3-9-1.
Despite resting a number of regulars, the Colonels got out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, as Marko Giourof scored his first career goal, unassisted. The Colonels would double their lead just a minute into the second, as Casper Soderling scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Max Lundgren. Lundgren would get another assist just three minutes later, teaming with Matt Connor to set up Taurin Haddon-Harris, as he scored his third goal of the season. The Colonels then got one more goal with five minutes left in the game, as Makem Demers deflected a shot attempt by Matt Connor into the net. Demers, a senior, was playing in his first game for the Colonels since 3/18/2023. It was his first goal in over two years, with his last goal coming on 1/28/2023. Demers led the game with eight shots.
Despite the Colonels scoring four goals or more for the 8th straight game, the story was in between the pipes, Shane Soderwall. Soderwall made 29 saves to pick up his 6th shutout of the season, the 11th of his career. Both marks set new program records. Soderwall broke his own record of five shutouts in a season, which he originally set last year. The sophomore breaks the career record previously held by Lenny Mosca '06. Mosca shutout his opponent 10 times in 90 games. Soderwall collects his 11th shutout in just the 40th game of his career, his 37th start. This also marked Soderwall's 31st career win, breaking him into the top five in program history. With three more wins he will jump into third. He needs five more to break the single season record for wins (21).
Up Next - The Colonels will look to keep the winning ways going when they travel to Wentworth on Friday.
