Men's Ice Hockey to Host 9th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Friday

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce its men's ice hockey team will host its ninth annual Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, December 1 when the Colonels host Wentworth at the Canton Ice House.

Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m., and fans with teddy bears and stuffed animals are welcome to throw them on the ice in unison immediately following the first goal scored by the Colonels.

Bears will be available at the door for a donation, or fans can bring their own bears from home. New or gently used teddy bears in their original packaging will be donated to Globe Santa, a non-profit organization with the Boston Globe Foundation that donates toys to children in need. To learn more about Globe Santa, please visit their website at globesanta.org.

The Teddy Bear Toss tradition in ice hockey dates back to 1993, when the Canadian junior team Kamloops Blazers held the event and donated over 2,400 bears thrown on the ice to local children's hospitals. The American Hockey League's Hershey Bears hold the world record with 45,650 stuffed toys thrown on the ice at a game in 2019.

If you are unable to attend the game but still would like to make a donation, contact men's ice hockey head coach Peter Roundy at peter.roundy@curry.edu.
