#6 Men's Ice Hockey Falls to #3 Endicott in Shootout

CANTON, Mass. - The #6 Curry College men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with #3 Endicott College Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

The Gulls scored the only goal in the shootout to grab the extra point in the CCC standings, but the game officially goes into the book as a tie with the NCAA. Curry moves to 15-2-1 overall on the season and 11-2-1 in the league play with the result.

Endicott wasted no time getting on the board, tallying the go-ahead goal just 1:25 into the contest. Zach Mazur was credited with the goal after receiving a feed from Ryan Willett.

Just over five minutes later, the Colonels even the score when senior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) notched his team-leading 15th goal of the season. Kent hopped on a loose puck in the right wing faceoff circle and fired a low shot through a screen and into the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1. Nicolas Lariviere (Blainville, Quebec) and Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) were credited with assists on the tally.

Midway through the second period, Curry freshman Ben Biester (Danville, Calif.) chose an enormous time for his first collegiate goal, scoring on a shorthanded break to put Curry on top 2-1. Lariviere and senior Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) picked up assists on the marker.

The 2-1 score held for nearly the balance of the contest, until Jackson Sterrett scored from an impossible angle with just 39.3 seconds to play and the goalie pulled to knot the score at 2-2 and force overtime.

Endicott outshot the hosts 7-4 in the overtime period, but neither team found the back of the net. The best chance of the frame came on a Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) breakaway chance with 43 seconds remaining, but Endicott netminder Atticus Kelly kicked out the right pad to keep the game tied and force a shootout.

None of Curry's three shootout attempts were successful, but Endicott's Andrew Kurapov converted in the second round to give the Gulls the victory in the conference standings.

The two teams will do battle again on Saturday afternoon at Endicott's Raymond J. Bourque Arena. Puck drop is slated for 3 p.m.
