#10 Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Suffolk

CANTON, Mass. - The #10 Curry College men's ice hockey team took care of Suffolk University 4-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Friday evening at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 14-2-0 overall on the season and 10-2-0 in the CCC. 

Graduate defenseman Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.) opened the scoring just 4:35 into the contest with his third goal of the season. Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) and Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) earned assists on the goal.

Later in the first, junior George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) tipped home a Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) to extend Curry's lead to 2-0. Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) tallied a secondary assist on the play.

Just 32 seconds into the second, Kent got on the board with a power play goal to put his team ahead 3-0, with assists to Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) and Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.).

With the clock winding down in the second, Curry put the final nail in the coffin with a power play goal from Zhukov with 12 second left in the period. Favaro and Kent each assisted on Zhukov's seventh goal of the season.

Between the pipes, graduate student Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) earned his 12th win of the season with a 19-save effort on 20 shots faced. Nine of his 19 saves came in the third period to help Curry seal the deal.

The teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon with a 4:50 p.m. puck drop in East Boston.
