CANTON, Mass. - The #13 Curry College men's ice hockey team scored six power play goals on Saturday afternoon, cruising past Nichols College 9-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 13-2-0 overall on the season and 9-2-0 in the CCC.

Curry wasted no time jumping in front, scoring twice in the game's first 98 seconds. Freshman Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) opened the scoring at the 0:56 second mark, followed 42 seconds later by Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.).

Kent also netted the only goal of the second period, coming with just under three and a half minutes to play, and the Colonels carried a 3-0 lead into the third.

Nichols cut the deficit to two just over two minutes into the third, but Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) answered just 41 seconds later to put the hosts on top 4-1.

The Colonels would go on to score five consecutive power play goals in the final nine and a half minutes of the third to finish out the lopsided victory. Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia), George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.), Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland), Jesse Galassi (Lockport, N.Y.), and Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) scored the late markers for the Colonels.

After scoring seven points on Friday night, Zhukov stayed red hot with a game-high five points on a goal and four assists. He closes out the weekend with 12 points in the sweep of Nichols.

Between the pipes, junior Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) earned his second win of the season with a 19-save effort.

Next up for the Colonels, they will square off with Suffolk University on Friday night for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Canton Ice House.
