Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Western New England on Senior Day

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team sent out it senior in style on Saturday afternoon, defeating Western New England University 6-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry concludes its regular season with a record of 15-8-2 overall and 13-7-1 in the CCC.

Before the game, Colonel seniors and graduate students Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland), Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario), Daniel Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.), Vilhelm Peltonen (Helsinki, Finland), Alex Ochterbeck (Plano, Texas), Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.), Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.), Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.), and Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) were joined on the ice by their families and friends for a special Senior Day ceremony.

Once the contest got underway, the Colonels needed just over two minutes to pot their first goal of the evening, when junior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) grabbed his 17th goal of the season on assists from Sundell and Peltonen.

Late in the period, Curry pounced for two goals in under two minutes to extend the lead to three entering the second. Eruzione found the net for his first Curry goal on an assist from Kent at the 17:39 mark, followed by Kent's second of the night from Eruzione and Peltonen at 19:14.

Just over three minutes into the second, Curry pushed its lead to four on the first collegiate goal from freshman Arty Koppass (Riga, Latvia). The rookie beat the Western New England netminder five-hole after a slick feed from sophomore George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.). Peltonen notched his third assist of the evening on the play.

The Golden Bears made things interesting by cutting the lead in half on goals 2:18 apart right after Curry stretched the lead to four. Sam Mitchell and Connor Geshan netted the goals for the visitors.

In the third, Curry put things out of reach by netting a pair of tallies. Kent completed his hat trick five and a half minutes in, before sophomore Greg Barnych (Smithtown, N.Y.) iced it with seven and a half to play.

Between the pipes, Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) turned aside 21 Western New England shots to earn his 12th victory of the season.

Next up, they will open CCC Tournament play next Saturday evening at 5 p.m. against Suffolk University at the Canton Ice House.
