Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Salve Regina in Overtime

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Salve Regina University Monday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at St. George's School.

With the defeat, Curry falls to 13-8-2 overall on the season and 11-7-1 in the CCC.

Salve Regina opened the scoring midway through the first period when Cameron Boudreau found the net on the power play, but Curry equalized just over six minutes later. Junior Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) went end to end before stuffing it home on the short side.

Just under seven minutes into the second stanza, Curry took its first lead of the afternoon when Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) netted a power play marker with assists to Zhukov and senior Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland). Late in the second, CCC Rookie of the Week Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) stretched Curry's lead to two, putting the Colonels up by a pair heading to the third.

Salve Regina refused to go down quietly, scoring twice in a span of 1:35 in the late stages of the third, forcing the game into overtime. Kaiden Kanderka pulled the Seahawks to within one, before the game was tied up on a Tyler Carangelo strike with 5:17 to go.

With under a minute to go in the overtime session, Salve Regina completed the comeback when George Sennott converted a 2-on-1 to give his team the win.

Curry sophomore goaltender Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) turned aside 35 shots in the losing effort for the Colonels.

The Colonels will play their final regular season road game on Friday night when they travel to Wentworth for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
