#14 Colonels Dominant in Win Over Rams

CANTON, Mass. - The #14 Curry College Men's Ice Hockey team defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University at The Canton Ice House Sunday afternoon with a final score of 7-2.

With the win at home, Curry improves to 12-5-2 overall this season and 10-4-1 in the CCC. With the loss on the road, Suffolk falls to 5-9-4 overall and 5-7-4 in the conference.

The afternoon bout began extremely close between the two conference sides. It took until just before the 12th minute in the first period for the Colonels to mark one on the board. Junior forward Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) found the back of the net on a power-play opportunity, assisted by Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland). Just two minutes later, Kent would find an opening in the framework for his and the Colonels' second goal of the contest. Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) and Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) were credited with assists on Kent's second goal. The Colonels continued their dominant efforts, netting the third goal in the first period with just four seconds left on the clock. Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) grabbed another goal for his side (assisted by Alex Ochterbeck (Plano, Texas) and Daniel Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.)), putting the hosts up 3-0 heading into the first intermission. 

The second period quickly saw similar attacking efforts from Curry. Junior defenseman Nicholas Favaro found the inside of the netting assisted by Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.) and Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ont.) under a minute into the second installment of play. The Colonels, now leading 4-0 find another as senior defenseman Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ont.) blasts a shot past Suffolk's Cal Wilcox assisted by Jacob Crespo (Eastampton, N.J.). Just under three minutes later, the Colonels increase their lead to 6-0 as Tarek Paranica finds a goal for himself, assisted by Eelis Laaksonen and Timmy Kent. With under five minutes remaining in the second period, Curry nets their seventh and final goal of the afternoon matchup. Curry College sophomore forward Greg Barnych (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallies his first goal of the season, assisted by Nolan Dawson (Rocky View County, Alta.) and Mike Pellegrini, putting the Colonels up 7-0. The Rams managed to tally one in the scoring column late in the second. Troy Ladka found an opening in the Colonel netting to close the deficit slightly. Ladka was assisted by John Garrity and Peter Nugent. 

The third period saw one goal from the visiting Rams. John Garrity netted the second Suffolk goal of the matchup assisted by Peter Nugent. The Colonels were able to break up any efforts presented by the visiting Rams through the duration of the contest, closing out the matchup with a final score of 7-2. 

Ram's goalie Cal Wilcox marked 14 saves and 5 goals against as their secondary goaltender Jarret Bovarnick recorded 17 saves and 2 goals against. 

Curry's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.) tallied 19 saves and 2 goals against in the win and secondary tender Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) marked 14 saves.

The Colonels get back out on the ice Tuesday as they head to Maine to face UNE for more conference action. Puck-drop is set for 7 PM.
