#15 Men's Ice Hockey Storms Past #10 Nor'easters

CANTON, Mass. - The #15 Curry College men's ice hockey team blew past #10 University of New England 6-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Friday evening at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, Curry earns its 11th win of the season, moving to 11-3-2 overall on the year. The team stays perfect at the Canton Ice House at 8-0-0.

A frenetic first period saw six goals go on the board before the teams returned to the locker rooms. UNE found the net first at the 5:10 mark, when Daniel Winslow banked in a shot off a Curry defenseman from below the goal line to take a 1-0 lead. The advantage was short-lived, as senior Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) leveled the score at 1-1 on assists from Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) and Nicholas Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario) at the 8:27 mark. Just 51 seconds later, junior Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ontario) put Curry on top 2-1. Favaro and freshman Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) were credited with helpers.

Winslow's second of the game at 11:01 of the first tied the score back up at 2-2, but goals from Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Favaro in the closing minutes of the period put the hosts up by a pair going to the second.

After a wild first, neither team found the net in the second, as Curry maintained its two goal advantage heading to the third.

Sophomore Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.) notched an unassisted short-handed goal just over five minutes into the third to stretch Curry's lead to three. With 6:43 to go, senior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) put the game on ice with his fifth goal of the season, giving the game its final score of 6-2.

In net, Curry senior Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) turned aside 22 shots to earn his eighth win of the season.

Curry and UNE return to the ice on Saturday in Biddeford for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
