CANTON, Mass. - The #15 Curry College men's ice hockey team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, Curry improves to 10-3-1 overall on the season and 8-2-1 in the CCC.

Curry opened the scoring just over five minutes into the contest. Seconds after exiting the penalty box, freshman Leevi Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) hopped on a loose puck in the neutral zone and scored on a breakaway for his first collegiate goal. Wentworth scored its lone goal of the afternoon in the final minute of the period as Joey O'Leary evened the score heading into the first intermission.

The Colonels took the lead for good 4:11 into the second period when senior Alex Ochterbeck (Plano, Texas) found classmate Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario) for the defenseman's first goal of the season. Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.) earned a secondary assist on the strike.

With 7:15 showing on the clock in the second, Curry extended its lead to two when freshman Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) hopped on a Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) rebound and backhanded home his fourth goal of the season. Sophomore George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) was credited with a secondary assist.

Neither team found the back of the net in the third as Curry secured its second victory over the Leopards in as many days.

Curry senior netminder Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) was named the contest's number one star, stopping 24 shots for his seventh victory of the season.

Next up for the Colonels, they will head to Western Massachusetts for a non-conference battle with Amherst College on Tuesday evening. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m.
